World Land Trust (WLT) was established in 1989 to save critically threatened tropical forest in Belize and has, since then, been instrumental in the purchase and protection of 500,000 acres of wilderness habitats. We work through overseas project partners with whom we have a very close working relationship; the land is managed as strictly protected nature reserve. They are real acres in real places, and we are working to save a range of habitats from tropical forest, to grasslands and wetlands, which are home to a wealth of endangered and endemic species.
The WLT Action Fund is the holding fund for Buy an Acre projects and Special Appeals. Current Buy an Acre projects are saving critical habitats in Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Paraguay and Special Appeals are raising funds for Orang-utan habitat in Borneo, Elephant corridors in India and grasslands in Kenya.

As well as focusing on priority projects to save threatened tropical forests in 2011 WLT will also be raising funds for its ‘Keepers of the Wild’ initiative. With over half a million acres now owned by overseas project partners WLT needs to help protect the reserves that have been created by providing funds to employ and equip more park rangers.
